NRCS-RI Virtual State Technical Committee Meeting rescheduled for Dec. 5, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

What is a State Technical Committee?

Every state has a Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Technical Committee. The State Technical Committee provides input to the State Conservationist on technical guidelines necessary to implement the conservation provisions of the Farm Bill.

State Technical Committees serve in an advisory capacity to NRCS and other agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on the implementation of the natural resources conservation provisions of Farm Bill legislation. Committees are intended to include members from a wide variety of natural resource and agricultural interests.

Chaired by the NRCS State Conservationist in each state, these committees are composed of representatives from Federal and State natural resource agencies, American Indian Tribes, agricultural and environmental organizations, and agricultural producers.

The Committees meet regularly to provide information, analysis, and recommendations to appropriate USDA officials, who strongly consider their advice. Individuals or groups wanting to participate as members on the Rhode Island State Technical Committee may submit requests to the State Conservationist, R. Phou Vongkhamdy, explaining their interest and relevant credentials.

The meeting is open to the public, but registration is required so that participants can be provided with a link to access the meeting. To register, please contact Jermaine Jenkins, Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations, at 401-822-8824 or jermaine.jenkins@usda.gov. Learn more about State Technical Committees.

NRCS is a federal agency that works hand-in-hand with conservation districts and the people of Rhode Island to improve and protect soil, water, air, plants, animals and other natural resources.
