Upper Wallowa River Irrigation Efficiency

County: Wallowa

Primary Resource Concern Addressed

  • Source water depletion - Inefficient irrigation water use
  • Weather resilience - Naturally available moisture use

Project Description
The purpose of this implementation strategy is to improve late season river flows for native red-band and bull trout and increase the drought resiliency of irrigated agricultural lands within the Wallowa river drainage area in Wallowa County.   This CIS will address improving the irrigation efficiency of on farm irrigation systems.  The priority area consists of the Granger Ditch and Prairie Creek areas.  More efficient irrigation delivery systems will reduce the amount of water diverted from creeks improving in stream conditions for Bull Trout, and native red band during irrigation season.

Application Questions
NRCS uses prioritization questions to evaluate applications for this initiative. See the list of workload prioritization questions on the Oregon EQIP page. Ranking questions below will also apply.

Ranking Questions

  1. Is this application for a delivery system improvement or an on-farm improvement (Irrigation or Stock water) associated with a delivery system improvement?
  2. For Applicants for delivery system improvement the draft design has been completed? OR For on Farm applicants draft design is complete?
  3. Using the Irrigation Water Savings Estimator Tool, what percent annual water savings increase will result from the planned practices?
