From Blackberries to Biodiversity: Conservation in Action at J&S Farm
J&S Farm tells the story of Shereen Rowland, a dedicated landowner who transformed her overgrown, blackberry-choked property into a thriving landscape for wildlife, pollinators and healthy waterways.
Working closely with the Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Oregon's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Shereen cleared invasive species, restored riparian habitat, improved stream shading with long-lived conifers and implemented a comprehensive nutrient management plan to protect water quality. A new pollinator meadow home to thousands of native forbs now supports vibrant populations of bees and butterflies.
Through partnership and shared vision, Shereen has watched deer, eagles, and waterfowl return to the land, turning her farm into a model of ecological stewardship. Her long-term goal: a healthier river, thriving habitat, and a legacy that leaves the earth better for future generations.
