Rehabilitation of Crabtree Creek Floodwater Retarding Structure No. 18

Crabtree Creek Flood Retarding Structure (FRS) No. 18 (Coles Branch) does presently meet North Carolina Dam Safety and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) standards for the capacity, stability, and  integrity of the vegetated spillway, however does not presently meet NRCS’s standards for the Freeboard Hydrograph (FBH) storm. The preferred plan is to lower the crest auxiliary spillway and dredge sediment in reservoir. There will be a reduction in flood capacity for storms larger than the 100-year or 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) however the dam will be at reduced risk of hydrologic failure due to overtopping. Project installation cost is estimated to be $1,027,100.
