Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact for Rehabilitation of the Piney Run Dam

Project seeks to rehabilitate the Piney Run Dam to meet current NRCS and Maryland Department of the Environment safety and performance criteria for a “high” hazard potential dam and to maintain the current level of flood damage protection.

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a program within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has prepared a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) titled “Piney Run Dam Rehabilitation Project Carroll County, Maryland” in partnership with the Carroll County Soil Conservation District and the Commissioners of Carroll County. The environmental assessment of this federally assisted action indicates that the project will not cause significant local, regional, or national impacts on the environment. As a result of these findings, the NRCS State Conservationist has determined that the preparation and review of an environmental impact statement is not needed for this project.

The project purposes are to rehabilitate the Piney Run Dam to meet current NRCS and Maryland Department of the Environment safety and performance criteria for a “high” hazard potential dam and to maintain the current level of flood damage protection.

The Notice of Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) has been forwarded to the Environmental Protection Agency and to various Federal, State, and local agencies and interested parties. A limited number of copies of the FONSI are available to fill single copy requests at the address below. Basic data developed during the environmental assessment are also on file and may be reviewed by appointment at the address below.
