Second Public Meeting to Discuss Bay of Fundy Aquatic Connectivity Project Set for April 17
This meeting will be held on April 17, 2025, at the Cobscook Institute, 10 Commissary Point Rd., Township of Trescott, Maine, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
BANGOR, March 14, 2025 – The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the State of Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, the State of Maine Department of Marine Resources, and the Lead Partner the Passamaquoddy Tribe are holding a second public meeting to discuss the proposed watershed plan and environmental assessment for the “Bay of Fundy Aquatic Connectivity” project in Washington County, Maine. This meeting will be held on April 17, 2025, at the Cobscook Institute, 10 Commissary Point Rd., Township of Trescott, Maine, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Under the Bay of Fundy Aquatic Connectivity project deteriorating fishways and undersized culverts that block fish such as sea-run smelts and sea-run alewives from historic spawning and nursery habitat will be replaced on roads in selected municipalities in Washington County. Water quality and forest health improvement will be created through restoration of habitat access, adjoining riparian areas and stream bank corridors.
During the meeting representatives from the local sponsors and NRCS, along with their consultants, will: provide information on the Bay of Fundy Aquatic Connectivity project, to include its watershed plan and environmental program; highlight planning activities for the Bay of Fundy Aquatic Connectivity restoration project; describe the various alternatives being considered for aquatic organism passage; answer questions and address concerns about the planned activities; and seek public input.
Federal funding has been received to assist the local sponsors in developing the plan, but funding has not yet been secured for the design or construction of these projects.
