The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Kansas is holding the first public meeting regarding two proposed dams in the Elk Creek Watershed, Site 4 in Nemaha County and Site 12 in Jackson County, Kansas. USDA-NRCS is currently assisting the Delaware Watershed Joint District (WJD) No. 10 with a supplemental Environmental Assessment (EA) for these proposed dams.  The meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Delaware Watershed Joint District (WJD) No. 10 Office, 125 West 4th Street, Holton, KS 66436.  The meeting will be an open house; community members are welcome to stop by anytime during its two-hour timeframe. No formal presentation will be given.

During the meeting, the public can review exhibits that describe the project’s schedule, existing conditions, and other information.  Representatives from the Delaware WJD No. 10, the USDA-NRCS and the consultant team will be present to listen to comments and answer questions.  Anyone interested in the project is encouraged to attend the meeting and share their thoughts.  We welcome the public’s comments on potential project issues, concerns, impacts, and benefits.

Community participation is important to successfully developing the supplemental EA document.  If members of the public cannot participate in the meeting, but would like to provide written comments, please submit your response by Monday, April 28, 2025

Written comments may be mailed to Larry J. Schieferecke, State Conservation Engineer for the Natural Resources Conservation Service at 760 S.
