Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Acting State Conservationist for Idaho, Amie Miller, has announced that a contract renewal sign-up is under way for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). Application deadline is June 20, 2025.

BOISE - Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Acting State Conservationist for Idaho, Amie Miller, has announced that a contract renewal sign-up is under way for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), which has 1,392,124  active acres enrolled in the state.

Active contract holders have the opportunity to ‘renew’ their CSP contract for an additional 5-year period during the final year of the current contract. The conservation stewardship benefit gained during the initial contract will continue to be maintained and then improved upon during a renewal contract.

Through CSP, agricultural producers and forest landowners earn payments for actively managing, maintaining, and expanding conservation activities like cover crops, buffer strips, pollinator and beneficial insect habitat, and soil health building activities – all while maintaining active agricultural production on their land. Benefits to producers can include:

  • Increased pasture, range, or forest land health
  • Improved irrigation water conservation
  • Improved nutrient pest and weed management
  • Wildlife population improvements; and
  • Better resilience to weather extremes.

Participants with existing CSP contracts that will expire on Dec. 31 can access the benefits of the program through an option to renew their contracts for an additional five years if they agree to adopt additional activities to achieve increased levels of conservation on their operation. Applications to renew expiring contracts are due to the local field office by June 20.

Producers potentially eligible for CSP Renewal or any producer interested in applying for CSP during any general signup should visit contact their local USDA service center to learn more.
