Colorado Snowpack Approaches Seasonal Peak

As Colorado approaches the seasonal peak of its snowpack, data as of April 1 show statewide snow water equivalent at 85 percent of median, down from 112 percent this time last year. March delivered 105 percent of median precipitation across the state, improving snowpack totals in many basins.

Northern basins have received more moisture than the south. Early season storms bolstered water year to date precipitation in southern basins but a drier mid-winter has tempered forecasts. Higher latitude basins continue to benefit, with streamflow projections near or above median.

Each year, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) recognizes the exceptional contributions of one of their own and awards them the title of NRCS Engineer of the Year.  This year, the NRCS Engineer of the Year is Shane W. Ice, P.E., State Conservation Engineer for NRCS in Texas.
