Uintah Water Efficiency Project Plan-EA (Sponsor = Uintah Water Conservancy Dist

Project Description

The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), with the Uintah Water Conservancy District as the project sponsor, is proposing the Uintah Water Efficiency Project in Uintah County, Utah, under authorities of the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) and the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act (Public Law [PL] 83-566. Improvements are being proposed within the Whiterocks and Ashley Valley Watersheds to: 1) further the conservation, development, utilization, and disposal of water, 2) prevent flood damages, and 3) further the conservation and proper utilization of land.

NEPA Analysis

NRCS, as the lead federal agency, is initiating National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis in the form of a new Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment (Plan-EA) to analyze impacts to the natural and human environment from this project. The Plan-EA will comply with the Council on Environmental Quality’s regulations at 40 CFR Parts 1500-1508 which require an evaluation of potential environmental impacts associated with federal projects and actions.

Current Status

The Scoping and Draft Plan-EA Phases are complete. Further review of the economic analysis is underway and pending formal decision to advance the Draft for further consideration.
