The National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS) extends an open invitation to submit abstracts for presentations at the 2025 National Cooperative Soil Survey Conference in Corvallis, Oregon.
Presenters can submit abstracts for one of the following: (1) Oral Presentations (15-minutes), (2) Poster Presentations, or (3) Lightning Talks (5-minute Oral Presentation).
NOTE: All accepted presenters are required to register and pay registration fees.
Abstract Submission Instructions
All submissions need to be made through Oregon State University's Conference Services Abstract Submission Portal. To submit an abstract, first create an account which will allow access to the submission portal.
As a reminder, all NRCS Soil and Plant Science Division staff planning to submit an abstract for the conference need to follow the internal review process prior to submitting abstracts to the Oregon State University's Conference Services Abstract Submission Portal.
We welcome submissions from all areas; however, we are particularly interested in abstracts that align with the conference theme which is focused on the importance of partnerships and collaboration within the NCSS. Posters and oral presentations should utilize the topics listed below to demonstrate how your work contributes to the National Cooperative Soil Survey:
- The Power of Partnerships
- Agriculture and Forestry Conservation
- Urban Soils
- Wildfire
- Dynamic Soil Properties
The following information will be required through the abstract submission portal to be considered:
- Presentation Title
- Presenter’s name, affiliation, address, phone number, and email address
- Co-authors' names and affiliation(s)
- Abstract, not to exceed 250 words.
- Indicate preference for presentation type:
- Oral Presentation (15-minutes)
- Poster Presentation
- Lightning Talk (5-minute oral presentation)
Presentation Guidelines
Oral Presentation
- A total of 15 minutes will be allotted for each oral presentation, including questions.
- NCSS will run Microsoft Windows with PowerPoint.
Poster Presentation
- Presentation includes a poster (36” H x 48” W maximum). Posters can be set up as early as Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and taken down by the end of the conference on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
- Poster presenters should stand near their posters during the designated poster session, prepared to discuss their poster and answer questions.
Lightning Talk
- A total of 5 minutes will be allotted for each lightning talk, including questions.
- NCSS will run Microsoft Windows with PowerPoint.
The NCSS steering committee will review the abstracts, make the final decisions, and notify each presenter by March 13, 2025. All presenters must submit a PowerPoint or PDF version of their presentation or poster to Tiffany Allen at tiffany.allen@usda.gov by June 19, 2025.
