Engineer Greg Wells speaks to a landowner about grassed waterway technical standards

Ohio State Technical Committee

The State Technical Committee (STC) provides recommendations to the NRCS State Conservationist on NRCS-related issues in Ohio. These issues include the implementation of NRCS programs, the development of NRCS practice standards, and others.

The State Technical Committee is an advisory group to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and other agencies of the USDA. Members serve to provide feedback on the implementation of the conservation provisions of Farm Bill legislation. The committee recommends criteria and guidelines for agricultural and nonindustrial private forestland producers regarding new and existing conservation programs and initiatives. The committee is chaired by the NRCS State Conservationist in Ohio. In addition to the full committee, there are subcommittees in Ohio focused on agronomy, animal feeding operations, conservation easements, forestry, grazing, irrigation, urban, water resources, wildlife and the Conservation Reserve Program.

Committees include members from diverse natural resource and agricultural interests. In Ohio, the committee is composed of representatives from federal and state natural resource agencies, and state and local agricultural and environmental organizations, as well as farmers, ranchers and forest landowners.

Individuals or groups who want to participate as members on the Ohio State Technical Committee may submit requests to the State Conservationist explaining their interest and relevant credentials.
