Conservation Practice Adoption and Motivations Survey Underway

SALT LAKE CITY, July 1, 2022 -- The Conservation Practice Adoption Motivations Survey is a joint project between USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), aimed at better understanding conservation practice adoption and the role of technical and financial assistance. About 560 producers have been randomly selected state-wide to participate in the survey.

No one knows the real story of conservation in American agriculture, better than farmers and ranchers. Don’t miss your chance to tell that story! Respond to NASS’s Conservation Practice Adoption Motivations Survey by August 19, 2022. Statistical data will be released September 15, 2022 and will guide the implementation of NRCS’s programs in the future. Respond online at agcounts.usda.gov using the 12-digit survey code mailed with the survey. Completed questionnaires may also be mailed back in the prepaid envelope provided. All information reported by individuals will be kept confidential, as required by federal law.

“Farmers and ranchers are on the front line of conservation in Utah agriculture,” said John Hilton, NASS State Statistician for Utah. “We need to hear their stories and experiences to deliver USDA programs that help producers and conservation efforts,” he continued.

“There are two conservation categories being surveyed this year,” said Emily Fife, NRCS State Conservationist for Utah. “Crop practices and confined livestock practices, will have a questionnaire that has been designed to gather information specific to the practices involved in each category,” she continued.

NRCS Chief Terry Cosby discusses the survey in a  1:41-minute video:
