Public Input Sought for Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 3

The Wake County government, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service are seeking public comments for Bond Lake Dam.

RALEIGH, N.C., – The Wake County government, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) of North Carolina (N.C.-NRCS) are in the planning process to develop a Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment for the rehabilitation needs of Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 3 (Site No. 3), also known as Bond Lake Dam. The location of Site No. 3 is approximately 6-1/4 miles south of the intersection of US Highway 540 and Interstate-40.

This project is part of the Small Watershed Rehabilitation Amendments of 2000 (Section 313, PL 106-472).  This legislation authorized the USDA-NRCS to work with local community leaders and watershed sponsors to rehabilitate aging watershed dams built under Public Law 78-534, Public Law 83-566, and the Pilot Watershed programs. For Site No. 3, the Wake County government are the local sponsors, working alongside N.C.-NRCS.

Wake County and N.C.-NRCS are hosting a public informational meeting.  Meeting date, time, and location are as follows:

The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. There will be a brief overview about the alternatives reviewed for the rehabilitation planning study. The public will have an opportunity to provide either written or verbal comments during the meeting. Comments will be accepted through September 13th, 2024. Written comments can be submitted after the meeting to the following address:
