Urban Project in Oxnard, Calif. Chosen for USDA NRCS Funding
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in California is excited to announce that the Oxnard Camino del Sol Community Garden Activation Project in Oxnard, Calif, will receive $350,000 to support their urban disadvantaged community in increasing food production and soil health.
DAVIS, Calif., July 2, 2024 – The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in California is excited to announce that the Oxnard Camino del Sol Community Garden Activation Project in Oxnard, Calif, will receive $350,000 to support their urban disadvantaged community in increasing food production and soil health, constructing critical infrastructure needs, and provide education for community gardeners, residents, and youth.
Furthermore, the funding will support the community gardeners’ learning and practicing of innovation in new and emerging, as well as indigenous and non-traditional agricultural practices and educate and provide necessary infrastructure for the gardening community, in order to reduce food insecurity in Oxnard.
The Oxnard project is one of 17 new grants that support urban agriculture and innovative production. These grants build on $46.8 million invested in 186 projects since 2020 and are part of USDA’s broad support for urban agriculture through its Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (OUAIP).
Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production Grants
The Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (UAIP) competitive grants program supports a wide range of activities through grants that include planning and implementation activities. Planning activities initiate or expand efforts of farmers, gardeners, citizens, government officials, schools and other stakeholders in urban areas and suburbs, while implementation activities accelerate existing and emerging models of urban, indoor and other agricultural practices that serve farmers and communities.
