Regional Conservationist Jon Hubbert

Jon Hubbert has served as the NRCS acting regional conservationist for the Northeast Region since January 2023.

He provides agency and natural resources leadership and support to state conservationists and partners and ensures

states effectively manage an extensive portfolio of comprehensive conservation strategies—which includes implementing NRCS’s conservation technical assistance and financial assistance programs on private lands. 

Hubbert has been the permanent Iowa state conservationist since 2020 and has served in several USDA leadership positions in Iowa, Illinois, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

During his career, Hubbert has led efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of NRCS services. He has worked to improve coordination within the agency’s conservation partnership and increase voluntary, incentive-based conservation on private lands.

Hubbert earned a Bachelor of Science from Western Illinois University. His major field of study was Agricultural Engineering Mechanization. He recently completed a Strategic Leadership Development Program at George Washington University.

His farming background includes grain, livestock, and forage production in central Illinois, where his family still farms. Hubbert enjoys spending time with his family and friends and being surrounded by nature while hiking, kayaking, hunting, and fishing.
