The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Oregon is considering funding the Owyhee Irrigation District to modernize strategic sections of their irrigation infrastructure. The purpose of project is to improve the reliability and efficiency of irrigation water delivery and help address agricultural water management concerns. Owyhee Irrigation District is the project sponsor, NRCS is the lead agency, and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is a cooperating agency. Improvements under consideration may be partially funded through the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act of 1954 (Pub. Law 83-566).

The proposed project would be in Malheur County, Oregon. The National Environmental Policy Act and the Council on Environmental Quality’s regulations require an evaluation of potential environmental impacts associated with federal projects and actions with input from the public.

You are invited to attend an in-person public scoping meeting where your input is requested. At the meeting, the range of resource issues and conceptual alternatives addressing system improvements to Owyhee Irrigation District will be presented. Attendees will have an opportunity to submit their comments, ideas, and concerns.
