Public Input Sought – Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 18

RALEIGH, N.C.,– The Wake County government, and the United States Department of Agriculture-Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) of North Carolina (N.C.-NRCS) are beginning the planning process to develop a Supplemental Watershed Plan and Environmental Assessment for the rehabilitation needs of Crabtree Creek Watershed Structure No. 18 (Site No. 18), also known as Coles Branch. Site No. 18 is located just east of Crabtree Crossing Parkway in Cary, NC.

This project is part of the Small Watershed Rehabilitation Amendments of 2000 (Section 313, PL 106-472).  This legislation authorized the USDA-NRCS to work with local community leaders and watershed sponsors to rehabilitate aging watershed dams built under Public Law 78-534, Public Law 83-566, and the Pilot Watershed programs. For Site No. 18, the Wake County government are the local sponsors, working alongside N.C.-NRCS.

Wake County and N.C.-NRCS are hosting a public informational meeting.  Meeting date, time, and location are as follows:

There will be a presentation from the planning team about the current progress of the rehabilitation planning study, the investigation and analysis results, and alternatives developed for the structure. The public will have an opportunity to provide either written or verbal comments during the meeting. Comments will be accepted through April 12, 2024.
