A lady beetle (Coccinella septempunctata) sits on a leaf stem at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) North Central Laboratory in Brookings, SD on Nov. 11, 2011. Coccinella septempunctata is a predatory lady beetle introduced into North America to control wheat pests, but its diet also includes pollen and nectar and USDA ARS scientists are studying the lady beetle’s feeding behavior to learn how to better use it for insect pest control.
