U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) helped Huerta del Valle (HdV) Co-Founder and Executive Director Maria Alonso obtain high tunnel hoop houses to extend their growing season and help nurture tropical trees such as the papaya to grow new roots into the soil wrapped around the branches; here, she checks for roots, the branch will later be cut to become independent trees at the 4-Acre organic Community Supported Garden and Farm in the middle of a low-income urb

Join USDA and Blackwood Educational Land Institute to learn more about resources for urban farmers. USDA's Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service and other agencies will be present to share information about their programs and how they can benefit urban farmers.

Gather & Grow will provide an opportunity to network with other organizations serving urban farmers and community gardens, in addition to providing opportunities for urban farmers across the Greater Houston area to network.

Optional Skyfarm tours start at 6 p.m. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m.
