Equity in Action: Watch and Learn

NRCS is committed to advancing equity, justice, and equal opportunity for agency employees and those we serve by sustaining fairness of NRCS programs, services, and technical assistance within agency policies and practices.

The NRCS Equity Division advocates for and better aligns institutional equity into the work and practices of NRCS to ensure that every customer is put in a position to succeed and to benefit from agency programs and services. This includes providing our employees and partners with educational resources, like these videos, to broaden their understanding of what equity means at NRCS.

Equity vs. Equality

The first video in the series, Equity vs. Equality, illustrates the difference between the terms “equality” and “equity.” While these terms may sound similar and are often used interchangeably, the implementation of one versus the other can lead to dramatically different outcomes for marginalized people. Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and ensures that all individuals and communities have the opportunities and resources they need. Equity is about fairness, while equality is about resemblance.
