Bringing oysters back to Bissel Cove

The decline of natural oyster communities in Rhode Island waters isn’t just bad news for shellfish lovers. Oysters fill an ecological niche and filter the water, keeping it clean. NRCS is working with partners to restore oyster reefs in water bodies like Bissel Cove in North Kingstown.

Conservation showcased at 2018 Intertribal Food Sovereignty Summit

USDA leaders joined tribal leaders at the 2018 Intertribal Food Sovereignty Summit at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum in Conn. The event highlighted indigenous food and included a conservation tour at Crandall Minacommuck Farm, the Narragansett tribal farm in nearby Westerly, RI.

NRCS and Narragansett Indian Tribe Collaborate on Elder Community Garden

Rhode Island NRCS and the Narragansett Indian Tribe entered into an agreement in FY 2015 to build the first community garden on reservation land in Charlestown, RI where Tribal elders will assist in the development of the garden.

Conservation Client Gateway, a new public website allows you to request technical and financial assistance, review and sign conservation plans, request and track payments for your completed contract items, and much more.

High Tunnel Initiative

NRCS has established High Tunnel Initiative. Agricultural producers can apply to receive financial and technical assistance under the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
