Urban agriculture pioneers are taking action in their communities, growing not only fresh, healthy produce, but also providing jobs, beautifying their neighborhoods, and offering access to fresh, healthy food in areas where grocery stores are sparse. NRCS provides technical and financial assistance for assistance for urban growers in areas such as soil health; irrigation and water conservation; weeds and pests; and high tunnels.

GLRI protects and restores watersheds to combat invasive species, protect watersheds and shorelines, reduce non-point source pollution, and restore wetlands and other habitat areas. This GLRI project is for producers in Ohio’s Western Lake Erie Basin (WLEB) in the following sub-watershed: Blanchard, Lower Maumee, Upper Auglaize, Cedar-Portage, Sandusky, St. Marys, Ottawa, St. Joseph, Tiffin, and Upper Maumee. |

The project will promote best management practices in Adams, Athens, Coshocton, Gallia, Guernsey, Harrison, Highland, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, Pike, Scioto, Vinton, and Washington Counties. Special emphasis will be placed on grassland management, planned grazing systems, nutrient management and winter-feeding management to address water quality and soil erosion concerns.

This project is part of an initiative to help farmers in 11 states, including Ohio, to plant cover crops. Benefits include improving soil health and limiting soil erosion. Cover crops also have the potential to sequester carbon, which is part of the USDA's larger goal to help farmers build more resilient operations. |

Conservation Incentive Contract |
This fund category provides additional opportunities for eligible producers to further the adoption, management and maintenance of conservation practices and activities through the application of incentive practices. Incentive contracts are an option that blend EQIP and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) by providing producers with financial assistance to adopt both conservation practices and enhancements on working landscapes. |

The project will demonstrate and document the benefits of best agricultural conservation practices for water quality, aquatic and wildlife habitat, and soil health, and to permanently preserve prime farmland and well-functioning stream corridors.

Spotted Knapweed Treatment for Ohio Producers (STOP)
This project will focus on treating and controlling spotted knapweed and other invasive species in four Appalachian counties: Guernsey, Morgan, Muskingum and Noble. These counties have experienced an exponential spread of spotted knapweed in privately owned pastures and hay land. Producers will receive assistance to help plan and implement conservation measures to pastures and permanent hay land to improve their grazing and hay land operations.

H2Ohio
The Ohio Department of Agriculture will use RCPP funding to complement its H2Ohio initiative, launched in 2019. The initiative focuses land management practice and system implementation to reduce Lake Erie nutrient enrichment. A diverse group of 20 partners intend to focus this project on farms and farmers in a 10-county portion of the Western Lake Erie Basin (WLEB) not currently included in the H2Ohio program, thereby accelerating progress toward achieving Ohio's commitment to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.

Rocky Fork
Highland Soil and Water Conservation District and five local state and federal partners will work with producers and landowners to protect water quality, reduce soil erosion, and provide habitat for at-risk species in the Rocky Fork Watershed. The partnership will help producers implement cover crops, field borders, and filter strips to reduce soil erosion and nutrient runoff, helping alleviate algal blooms in Rocky Fork Lake
