Montana Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative

Montana GLCI logoThe Montana Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative (GLCI) is a grassroots voluntary effort to enhance private grazing lands.

Approximately 70 percent of Montana is made up of rangeland and pasturelands, making grazing lands Montana's largest natural resource. In Montana alone, there are more than 40 million acres of privately owned grazing lands.

State grazing lands coalitions promote voluntary technical assistance to landowners and managers, as well as an increased emphasis on grazing land research and education. The Montana GLCI identifies priority issues, finds solutions, and works to effect change on private grazing land.

Private Grazing Lands Produce Multiple Benefits

Purpose

  • Strengthen Partnerships
  • Promote Voluntary Actions
  • Respect Private Property Rights
  • Encourage Diversification to Achieve Multiple Benefits
  • Emphasize Training, Education, and Increase Public Awareness
