The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering technical and financial assistance to agricultural landowners impacted by 2020 wildfires across Montana.

NRCS is accepting applications for its Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to assist with practices related to grazingland recovery. NRCS accepts conservation program applications year-round; however, applications for 2020 wildfire recovery funding must be submitted by January 15, 2021.

“NRCS in Montana is prepared to assist landowners in eight counties with practices that will help their lands recover from the impacts of wildfire,” said Tom Watson, NRCS state conservationist for Montana. “In addition, practices like prescribed grazing will make these agricultural operations more resilient to warm, dry weather in the future.”

Landowners in Big Horn, Carter, Custer, Gallatin, Garfield, Musselshell, Powder River, and Rosebud counties may be eligible for the NRCS wildfire assistance. Farmers, ranchers, and forestland owners impacted by fire in these counties are encouraged to contact their local NRCS office to seek assistance. NRCS can provide technical and financial assistance to install measures that address resource concerns caused by the wildfires.

Find contact information for the local NRCS office at www.mt.nrcs.usda.gov.
