Information For Earth Team Volunteers

The Earth Team is a corps of volunteers dedicated to improving natural resources by working with the Natural Resources ConservationService and their local Conservation District. Volunteering is a great way to help protect your community's natural resources, help your local community and gain valuable work experience.

What kind of work can volunteers do?

With 57 Field Offices located around the state, a State Office in East Lansing, and the Rose Lake Plant Materials Center in East Lansing, a variety of work opportunities exist.  Volunteers are encouraged to use their talents to assist in the way they feel will best serve the conservation effort. Some examples of past volunteer work include:

  • Translating documents into Spanish
  • Photography
  • Data collection for reports
  • Planting trial plots for plant materials
  • Highly erodible land and wetland determinations
  • Assisting with conservation planning
  • Data entry into NRCS Field Office customer database

Who can volunteer?

Anyone age 14 and above can be an Earth Team volunteer.

How do I sign up?

Contact your local NRCS Field Office which can be found under the "Find a Service Center" link on the left, or contact the Michigan Earth Team Volunteer Coordinator at 517-324-5244 or e-mail brian.buehler@mi.usda.gov.
