On-Farm Energy Initiative

On-Farm Energy

It’s no surprise that energy is a major business expense. Fortunately, farmers and ranchers in Washington now have a significant opportunity through the NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives (EQIP) Energy Initiative, to conserve energy. You can benefit from practices such as improved irrigation systems, pumping plant upgrades, and tillage management.

The EQIP Energy Initiative is a unique, multi-faceted “whole-farm” approach that will help you find the resources that lead to major energy savings – for you!

The Agricultural Act of 2014 provides authority for the use of Environmental Quality Incentives Program to provide financial opportunities for producers to address on-farm energy conservation through practice implementation and for development of energy conservation plans.

The EQIP On-Farm Energy Initiative enables the producer to identify ways to conserve energy on the farm through an Agricultural Energy Management Plan (AgEMP), also known as an on-farm energy audit; and by providing financial and technical assistance to help the producer implement various measures and practices recommended in an on-farm energy audit.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include individuals, legal entities, Indian Tribes, or joint operations engaged in agricultural production. Producers who grow agricultural commodities on eligible land and have resource concerns which may be addressed by energy conservation may participate in EQIP's On-Farm Energy Initiative.

EQIP Application Information

NRCS accepts and processes EQIP applications on a continuous basis. However, NRCS sets dates to prioritize applications as funding allows. The first cutoff deadline for batching and ranking applications for Fiscal Year 2022 is Oct. 1, 2021. Additional application batching dates may be established if necessary. Contact your local NRCS office for more details.
