Source Water Protection (SWP)

The 2018 Farm Bill provides a new opportunity for farmers and landowners to receive 75 percent financial assistance rates for key water quality practices located in source water protection (SWP) priority areas.

If you farm in any of the priority zones in the map below, you may be eligible to receive increased financial assistance from the following Farm Bill conservation programs:

  • Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)
  • Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP)
  • Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP)
  • Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP)

Iowa NRCS is providing 10 percent of Farm Bill program funding for this initiative and is now accepting SWP applications. On a statewide basis, funding will be split 55 percent for groundwater source protection/45 percent surface water source protection.

Eligible conservation practices may address groundwater or surface water protection, or both. A list of eligible practices for FY2021 is listed on the flyer below. NRCS field office staff can help determine if your application is eligible for SWP priority area financial assistance.
