Faces of Agriculture and USDA is a virtual speaker series that features current USDA researchers, scientists, technicians, engineers, foresters, and other STEM related program managers.  These virtual sessions allow students from high school and college students from Minority Serving Institutions and School Districts to engage with current USDA professionals and learn about their story, career path, and exciting projects and initiatives they may be working on at USDA that serve the public interest; while helping to inspire the next generation of the agricultural workforce!

Andrea Bridgewater-Fair began was invited to become a member of the Southern University Ag family while participating in a summer ag recruitment program entitled, the “BAYOU Program”, Beginning Agricultural Youth Opportunities Unlimited. Andrea later received her bachelor’s degree from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA in Agricultural Science with a concentration in Animal, Plant, & Soil Science in May 2013. After multiple years of interning with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, she obtained a Soil Conservationist(SC) position in the Lake Charles Field Office in Lake Charles, LA. She furthered her career by accepting the District Conservationist (DC) position in Mansfield, LA and Bossier City, LA. and is currently serving as the Supervisory DC for LARU 11. Along with her full-time duties, Andrea performs collateral duties as the Federal Women’s Special Emphasis Program Manager on the civil rights committee for the state of Louisiana.

 

 

Lizbeth Estrada Rocha is a Civil Engineer for the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service for the state of Missouri. She is a first-generation college student who graduated from the University of California, Davis with a bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She was born in Guanajuato Mexico in a small town named Trejo. Her and her parents migrated to the United States in search of a better future when she was three years old and she was raised in the small town of Selma California located in the Central Valley.

 

Lizbeth began her career with NRCS in February 2021 as a pathways recent graduate employee. She looks forward to beginning a long career with NRCS as she helps in the technical guidance in planning, design and installation of conservation practices that help protect essential natural resources.

 

About this Event

This virtual speaker series will feature current USDA researchers, scientists, technicians, engineers, foresters, other STEM related program managers. These sessions will allow students from high school through college to engage with current USDA professionals and learn about their story, career path, and exciting projects and initiatives they may be working on at USDA that serve the public interest, all while helping to inspire the next generation of the agricultural workforce!
