A COVERING COVERS FIELD DAY

September 27
9:00am—Noon (Rain or shine)

Location:
Meet 2 miles west on H Avenue off of Hwy 177
(North of Council Grove—follow the signs)

The workshop will be held in the field with some presentations from local farmers and Ray Ward of Ward Laboratories in Kearney, NE.  We also plan to dig a soil pit in an grazed cover crop field.

Participants will see firsthand soybeans that were seeded into standing cereal rye, a grazing ‘cocktail’ mix of cover crops, and the effects of different cover crop roots in the soil.  Following the tour, there will be a farmer panel that will field questions from the crowd.

Topics to be “Covered” and seen in action:

  • Weed control in a cover crop system
  • Grazing and covers
  • Soil health seen in a soil pit with Ray Ward, Ward Laboratories
