ENERGY . . . Generate it! Conserve it! Renew it!

What's New

As part of the energy initiative from the last two farm bills, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has funds available to help agricultural producers cover the expense of conducting an energy audit.  These audits identify equipment or methods to reduce energy consumption.  NRCS has a list of technical service providers that are used to do the actual audit.  Work with you local NRCS field office to get the process started. Funding is available thru the EQIP programs. Go to this link for more information. See https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/main/pa/programs/financial/. Click under the “ I What to..” side bar to find your local office or how to apply.

Applicable Agricultural operations include all types of livestock, Maple Syrup Production, Mushroom production, and Greenhouse operations.  Cost-share amounts and practices vary from year to year but can include updating lights and light fixtures to LED, plate coolers for dairy, RO systems for Maple Syrup, insulation for poultry facility conversion to tunnel ventilation, replacement motors and fans, variable speed drives for motors associated with vacuum pumps, etc.  A complete list can be found by going to the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) Codes page and look for the following codes listed in document to see what is eligible.

Code 128 Ag Energy Management Plan lists cost-share available for plan development.

Code 136 Ag Energy Design lists cost-share for design projects.

Code 374 Farmstead Energy Improvement lists all of the eligible components

Code 670 Energy Efficient Lighting System list eligible components.

Code 672 Efficient Building Envelope list eligible components.

Funding is limited.  Payments for improvements are only made to producers with contracts and designs. No work can be done before a contract is signed.

Please contact your local NRCS office to get started.
