These guides provide descriptions of each occupation and the job duties, qualifications and other requirements and map the available career paths. By using these guides, you can:

NRCS Career Planner

The NRCS Career Planner is a tool to help NRCS staff, partner staff and potential employees understand the expected proficiency levels for different positions within various occupational disciplines such as engineering, soil conservation and soil science. The planner: Breaks down broad competencies into smaller tasks that are more easily assessed. Creates a report showing the gaps between what individuals know and what NRCS wants them to know; Contains a list of references for training courses and resources to address gaps;

NRCS employees may have access to a NRCS Career Planner customized with state-specific training resources. Please check with your supervisor to see if a customized tool is available for your position. Prospective employees and partner staff can assess their duties and look at applicable planners to determine which is best to use.
