The Long Island Sound Watershed begins at the headwaters of the Connecticut River on the Quebec border and encompasses 17,814 square miles (11,400,923 acres) in six states (VT, CT, MA, NH, NY, RI) and Quebec. Vermont NRCS is now accepting applications for the Long Island Sound Initiative (LISI) that will cover areas of Vermont included in this watershed.

The LISI addresses the following resource concerns:
  • Fish and wildlife: habitat, declining threatened and endangered species, species of concern
  • Water quality: nutrients, sediment, bacteria
  • Recreational and economic opportunities
  • Plant conditions: noxious and invasive species
If you own property in the eastern portion of Vermont, you are encouraged to contact your local field office to determine if you are eligible for this program.

The deadline to apply is June 1, 2012
