NRCS promoting on-farm energy audits & outreach to sustainable small farmers

TINMOUTH, VT - The SolarFest event has been taking place every summer since 1995. This year there were five workshop tracks over all 3 days - Renewable Energy, Sustainable Agriculture, Solar Generation, Green Building, and Thriving Locally. NRCS programs are increasingly emphasizing energy efficiency, so this event seemed like the perfect place to share our concern for the agency's most recently added resource concern. SolarFest's mission statement states: "SolarFest blends art, education, and outreach to inspire conservation, promote renewable energy, and support sustainable communities". The organizers of this event make a special effort with recycling only 90 pounds of trash were generated from 5500 attendees - the rest was recycled or composted. The NRCS booth had a steady stream of people by our booth for the duration of the event and handed out lots of literature about our programs.
