Heavy rains during Hurricane Harvey in August of 2017 caused flooding in the San Marcos River near Luling, Texas, causing bank erosion which threatened historic Zedler Mill park structures and associated recreational facilities upstream of the dam. NRCS invested $3.3 million through its Emergency Watershed Protection Program to stabilize the eroded bank along approximately 600 feet of the San Marcos River by installing steel sheet piling with associated tiebacks to provide a stable slope above. The project was completed in July 2020.
