The Western Regional Cooperative Soil Survey Workshop starts at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 25th, and concludes at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 28th (with an optional field trip from 12:30-4:00).

FIELD TOUR

The field tour on Wednesday (July 27) will explore soil catenas in the boreal forest and tussock tundra environments near Fairbanks including examples of patterned ground features, cryostructures, and thermokarst. Groups will also tour the CRREL Permafrost Tunnel and visit the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Be prepared for a variety of weather conditions. Tours will require hiking over sloping, uneven, and potentially wet terrain requiring appropriate footwear. The tour will culminate at the Alaska Salmon Bake for a uniquely Alaskan meal within the historic Pioneer Park.
 

LODGING

The Wedgewood Resort is an all suite hotel that offers one- and two-bedroom suites. The one-bedroom suite includes a full kitchen, dining area, living room, balcony, bedroom with 2 double beds, walk-in closet, full bathroom, and cable TV. The two-bedroom suites have the same layout with an extra bedroom with one double bed in the room. The Wedgewood Resort also has laundry facilities and free wireless internet.

  • 24-hour shuttle to and from the airport; call the hotel upon arrival
