[A profile of a Compass soil.]The Compass series consists of deep, moderately well drained, moderately slowly permeable soils that formed in thick loamy and clayey marine sediments. These soils are on broad nearly level and gently sloping uplands and sloping sideslopes leading to drainageways in the coastal plain. The lower subsoil is saturated in winter and early in the spring. Water runs off the surface slowly. Slope ranges from 0 to 8 percent.
