Dakota Farm Talk - South Dakota Building Connections network

Networking can be a valuable method of learning. The Journey to soil health offers a multitude of networking opportunities including the South Dakota Building Connections network! Coordinated by NRCS, the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition, and other local conservation partners, the soil health mentor network features over 100 farmers, ranchers, and land owners volunteering their time to assist others in their soil health journey. Fort Pierre producer and Leopold Award winner Levi Neuharth has been on both side of the fence of the mentoring program and says, “To help people be more successful, we try to help them not make the mistakes we have made.”

Mentors offer help in numerous areas including crop and grazing management, beginning no-till, water management, wildlife, and many other subjects. The South Dakota Building Connection Booklet with more information and a full listing of mentor contacts can be found at any South Dakota NRCS service center.
