Honolulu, Hawaii August 13, 2018 – Conservation Innovation Grant & Competitive Grants/Agreements Sections  

Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) Selections


We had six Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) applications for FY18 from a diverse group of participants. After a rigorous review process conducted by the PIA CIG Review Team to ensure that each application was given due consideration, four of the six CIG proposals were forwarded to Director Thomason for his consideration, which he subsequently selected for funding. They are:

  • Permanent Agriculture Resources, Pacific Island Agroforestry Design Tools and Professional Development Workshops
  • University of Guam,Guam Restoration of Watersheds ‘GROW’: Ugum
  • University of Hawai'i, “Restoring Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity Through Cost-Effective and Resilient Agroforestry Systems
  • University of Hawai'i,  “Soil Health Friendly Biofumigation Using Brown Mustard and Oil Radish Cover Crops for Soil-borne Disease Management

Congratulations to these four new CIG projects.

Competitive Grants/Agreements (CGA) Selections  

We had twelve Competitive Grant/Agreement (CGA) applications for FY18 from a very extensive and diverse group of participants. After an arduous review process conducted by the PIA CGA Review Team to ensure that each application was given due consideration, three of the twelve CGA proposals were forwarded to Director Thomason for his consideration, which he subsequently selected for funding. They are:

  • Hawaii Agricultural Research Center, “Healthy Soils of Hawaii”
  • Hawaii Islands Land Trust, “Conservation Easements Outreach
  • Pacific Resources for Education and Learning, “Living Soils, Living Plants, Living Islands

Congratulations to these three new CGA projects.
