Honolulu, HI, February  7, 2018 – Memorandum of Understanding Between FWS & NRCS

On Wednesday February 7, 2018, NRCS PIA Director Travis Thomason and Mary Abrams Field Supervisor, PIFWO Fish & Wildlife Services signed an memorandum of understanding pledging to work together.

This memorandum of understanding is entered into between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for the purpose of improving cooperation between the agencies and enhancing the agencies' capacity and efficiency in meeting the shared goal of restoring and enhancing fish and wildlife habitat on private lands.

The FWS's Partners for Fish and Wildlife (PFW), Coastal Programs (Coastal), Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership, Recovery, and other funding sources and the NRCS' Farm Bill Programs ( e.g. EQIP, AMA, CStP, ACEP) deliver habitat restoration projects and promote stewardship of natural resources on private lands. This agreement recognizes that restoration and enhancement of native fish and wildlife habitat requires the necessary staff time and budget to accomplish these goals and that the sharing of personnel, expertise, and other resources is critical for both agencies to be successful in protecting and restoring these habitats.

The goal of this agreement is to promote opportunities for the FWS and NRCS to share technical expertise in delivering collaborative FWS and NRCS habitat projects in the Pacific Islands (including Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, and other U.S. protectorates in the Pacific). Additionally, this agreement promotes the shared goals of restoration and stewardship of native habitats and native wildlife-compatible agricultural practices on private lands. This agreement provides for the limited interchange of services, personnel, equipment, and facilities necessary to achieve these goals.

NRCS PIA Director signs MOU with Mary Abrams Field Supervisor, PIFWO Fish & Wildlife Services.
