Suffolk, N. Y., July 17, 2020 – The Suffolk County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has partnered with New York Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to bring focused conservation program funding to the region.  The Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) uses partnerships to coordinate and target resources to address regional conservation goals.

The Peconic Estuary Watershed RCPP partnership announces August 21, 2020 as the application cutoff date for targeted conservation projects through the NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) in Suffolk County for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021. All applications are competitive and are ranked based on locally identified resource priorities and the overall benefit to the environment.

This special funding will be used to implement practices to address localized priority resource concerns.  Local SWCD’s and NRCS offices will work together to provide assistance to producers in the project area in developing and implementing conservation practices.

Interested farmers and landowners that are located within the Peconic Estuary Watershed should contact their local NRCS office for additional information and to obtain an application. Office staff will be able to help confirm eligibility.
