Jasmine Wilson - Promoting Soil Health

Albuquerque, N.M. – Jasmine took the initiative to assist farmers by promoting the following soil health related conservation practices: Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest Management, Cover Crops, Crop Rotation, Residue Management, and Drip Irrigation Systems in Hoop Houses. Her efforts were integral to Team 2's success in secured EQIP funding for farming communities including large numbers of historically underserved and urban customers.

Jasmine added to her normal workload by investing time and effort reaching out to non-traditional customers and following up with those customers to assist them in getting conservation on the ground. Jasmine's outreach efforts to promote soil health went above and beyond normal expectations of field staff. She educated rural and urban farmers on Soil Health and Farm Bill Programs, presented at three joint NRCS/FSA events and followed up with producers to assist in addressing resource concerns and applying for EQIP.

Jasmine's commitment and compassion resulted in additional EQIP applications for Team 2. Through her efforts, Team 2 had 19 Beginning Farmer/Rancher High Tunnel or Irrigated Cropland applications, 8 Tribal Cropland applications, 3 Strikeforce Cropland applications, and 8 Socially Disadvantaged Cropland applications. This is the most Beginning Farmer/Rancher applications Team 2 has received to date.

Jasmine will receive an award for her achievement and recognition.
