Amanda Montoya,  2018 Earth Day Event

Albuquerque, N.M. – Amanda is being recognized for coordinating the annual Earth day 2018 event at the Tucumcari Outdoor Classroom.  This included scheduling with local schools, lining up speakers for the event, and attending Outdoor Classroom planning meetings.  The Earth Day 2018 event included over 600 students from local schools with over 50 volunteers in attendance.  Amanda was also 1 of 10 speakers at the event and her presentation was over surveying and survey equipment.

The coordination of this event is typically handled by the District Conservationist (DC), however Amanda jumped right in, coordinated and planned this event with very little input from the DC while maintaining her normal work duties.  Amanda attended Outdoor Classroom planning meetings, lined up local schools, and contacted speakers for the event. Amanda also gave her own presentation as on of the 10 speakers, this was a huge accomplishment as she conducted a surveying presentation 20 times to over 600 students in one day.

Thanks to Amanda’s efforts, over 600 students learned different aspects of nature and conservation efforts.  She forged stronger working relationships with partners involved, including Canadian River SWCD, Southwest Quay SWCD, Arch Hurley Conservation District, the City of Tucumcari, the Chamber of Commerce, Altrusa, Daughters of the American Revolution, Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, and other local groups.  She helped promote NRCS to young high school students that may be future employees.

Amanda will receive an award for her achievement and recognition.
