Troy Thomspon, Commitment to Mentoring Future Agricultural Professionals

Albuquerque, N.M. –Troy Thompson, Soil Conservationist - Team 10, was selected as the New Mexico Employee of the Month for April 2018.  Troy was instrumental in helping Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters in Carrizozo and Roswell with Career Development Events.  These events each targeted approximately 50 high school students via judging contests in which they competed on their knowledge of range and pasture. Troy’s commitment to mentoring future agricultural professionals helped promote NRCS as the agency of choice for career opportunities and conservation leadership.

Troy’s assistance with FFA career events and judging contests were conducted after normal working hours (evenings and weekends).  By participating in these outreach opportunities, Troy reached people interested in conserving natural resources as well as potential future employees and conservation leaders.

Due to Troy’s outreach efforts, residents serviced by NRCS better understand the agency’s role in conservation and area youth are encouraged to pursue careers in agriculture and natural resources.

Troy will receive an award for his achievement and recognition.
