Amalia Montoya, Ensured Availability and Access to NRCS Programs

Albuquerque, N.M. – For much of the first quarter of fiscal year 2018, Team 9 had no staff at the Otero Service Center and only 4 staff total on the team which covers three offices.  Amalia ensured availability and access to NRCS programs in Otero County by assisting the Team and producers with EQIP sign-up, eligibility checks, surveys, and planning using Toolkit.

Amalia distinguished herself by taking on additional workload not related to her core duties.  As an Area Rangeland Management Specialist, Amalia’s normal workload requires her to travel to 8 field offices in the southeast portion of the South Area providing support to staff.  She successfully took on the workload of a single Service Center, immersing herself in the day-to-day field work by meeting with producers, conducting initial planning, and assisting with other administrative and field work.

As a result of Amalia’s efforts, Team 9 was able to efficiently serve the agricultural community in Otero County by taking the initiative to lend a hand when it was needed and because of her assistance, service to producers was seamless resulting in 23 applications from Otero County despite the staffing shortage.

Amalia will receive an award for her achievement and recognition.
