Tyler Sherman, Outreach Efforts

Albuquerque, N.M. –Tyler Sherman presented information about natural resources management and NRCS’ role in conservation on private lands.  He taught students, traditional, and non-traditional partners about soil health, soil erosion, conservation, and its importance by providing hands-on demonstrations of the rainfall simulator and rolling rivers trailer to illustrate the relationships between conservation and ecosystem services.

Tyler distinguished himself by not only serving as main presenter and operator of the rainfall simulator and rolling rivers trailer, he also coordinated, organized and prepared the demonstrations days prior to the event.  Tyler provided substantial input and the critical skills required to set up the equipment used for the demos.  He obtained soil samples, inspected and repaired equipment, organized supplies and located convenient water sources. By hauling the trailers and setting up the stations, Tyler conducted much of this outreach outside of his normal tour of duty.

As a result of his efforts, students and area residents are now aware of NRCS careers and programs through extended outreach activities. In addition, the importance of conservation and its relationship to our quality of life is better understood by the public. Tyler’s outreach efforts have enhanced the credibility of the work and assistance offered by NRCS and improved the local partnership with FSA, U.S. Forest Service, Extension, and NM Game and Fish.

Tyler will receive an award for his achievement and recognition.
