14 Wilcox Co EQIP Program Executive Summary

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Wilcox County, Alabama, will hold a sign up for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for the 2014 Fiscal Year. The signup will be held on continuous basis.  Any eligible land user who has a resource concern or problem on pastureland, cropland, hayland, forestland and wildlife land may apply for assistance through this program.

The county concerns that have been prioritized are:

  1. Grazing Lands
  2. Forest Health and Wildlife
  3. Soil Erosion/Soil Quality
  4. Water Quality/Animal Waste
  5. Irrigation Water Management

The first batch period will end on October 18, 2013.  Applications received after this date will be considered in the next pool for funding if additional funds are available. Date of application will be the first tie-breaker. The second tie-breaker will be watershed assessment ranking. 

All applications will be ranked according to National 2014 EQIP ranking tool. Approved applications will be those that provide the greatest environmental benefits and those receiving the most environmental points. Contracts will be developed for approved applications in order of descending environmental points until all funds are obligated.

Wilcox County will use the 2014 NRCS EQIP Practice and Payment Schedule. Planned conservation practices, program payment rates and restrictions will come from this list.

Limited Resource Farmers, New and Beginning Farmers, and Socially Disadvantaged Farmers will be paid at an increased payment rate.

Written leases must be provided for the length of the contract where applicants installing practices are not the current landowner(s). Structural practices installed must have prior written approval of landowner(s).


  • 490 Tree/ Shrub Preparation - $14,640 limit per operation per contract regular/$17,600 for Historically Underserved.
  • 512 Forage/Biomass Planting - $17,500 limit per operation per contract regular/$21,000 for Historically Underserved.
  • 612 Tree Planting - $14,720 limit per operation per contract-regular/$17,680 for Historically Underserved.
