Improving Wildlife and Pollinator Habitat on Farms

Introduction

KSU Logo for RCPPKentucky State University (KSU) has partnered with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and other State and private organizations with an interest in protecting our natural resources on a Regional Conservation Partnership Agreement (RCPP) aimed at improving wildlife and pollinator habitat on working lands in Central Kentucky.  Many agricultural producers in the central part of Kentucky focus on maximizing production acreage and their natural resource concerns receive less attention.  The goal of this RCPP project is to improve wildlife and pollinator habitats and water quality on eligible lands through development of an implementation-focused training program.  The project will target conservation using the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) to enable landowners to install practices that provide direct operational benefits and address other agricultural concerns.  An integral part of the project is contributions from partnerships within the agricultural and natural resources communities.  The project partners will work together to train agricultural landowners on efficient and accurate implementation of conservation practices through a series of how-to-workshops and demonstration projects.  This innovate model will combine financial assistance from EQIP and CSP with supportive, on-the-ground training to ensure implementation is cost-effective and successful.  Demonstration projects will be developed on land eligible for this project and in conjunction with existing programs.  The project goals are to provide innovative, measurable solutions to conservation concerns on farmland in Kentucky.
