DATE: April 27, 2009

SUBJECT:  National Engineering Handbook Part 651, Engineering Technical Materials

Purpose:  To add listings of Illinois NRCS approved waste storage and handling structures as supplements to the Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook

Expiration Date:  Upon receipt.

Explanation: Illinois NRCS has been working on approvals for manufactured waste storage and handling structures. A May 15, 2008 agreement between Illinois NRCS and Engineered Storage Products Company instituted a new nationwide process for approval of new sizes of the Slurrystore waste storage tank. Recently, Cover-All Building Systems, Inc. has agreed to improve the warranty on their hoop buildings, if funded by NRCS in Illinois. As a result, certain hoop style roofs have now been determined to meet NRCS standards and may be used in practice designs involving roof structures.

The approvals of the listed structures depend on proper implementation of the certification procedure for each site-specific design, as outlined in the attached supplements. NRCS will not provide technical assistance for the design of these structures, beyond cursory review and approval. The program participant will be responsible for securing the services of an Illinois licensed engineer for design and construction certification.

This notice distributes Illinois supplements IL 10-64-26, 10-64-27 and 10-64-28.

The Illinois NRCS engineering website will be updated to include the new Illinois supplements at

Filing Instructions:

All holders of Agricultural Waste Management Field Handbook binders should print the attached AWMFH supplements IL 10-64-26 through 10-64-28 on green paper, and file in the AWMFH after existing Illinois supplement 10-64-25.

Any questions regarding this submittal should be directed to the Area Engineer.
