Public Comment Period Open for Proposed Raft River Project

Raft River Watershed Project, Raft River, Idaho

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), with the Raft River Flood District, Raft River Recharge Group, and Raft River Electric as the project sponsors, is proposing to partially fund through the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act (Public Law [PL] 83-566), the Raft River Watershed Plan. The plan will support the increased protection of communities and infrastructure, as well as to provide water to support agricultural needs. Goals for this project include recharging and stabilizing groundwater levels, addressing flood prevention, increasing public health and safety, and reducing sediment loads to the Snake River.

NRCS held a virtual public scoping meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on September 17, 2020, as part of the Environmental Assessment (EA) to provide information about the conceptual design and to collect public comments. The public was invited to attend the scoping meeting to learn more, ask questions, and submit comments. A brief presentation was provided prior to a question and answer session.

The meeting was recorded and can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAfpW7lyz_A

Written comments can be submitted during the public scoping period starting Sept.17, 2020 and ending on Oct. 16, 2020. All questions and comments should be directed to:
